Although the Victorians are widely credited with popularising the Trossachs as a tourist destination, the area was being appreciated for its natural beauty as far back as the reign of King George III. Wordsworth and Coleridge visited in 1803 and a decade later the novels and poetry of Sir Walter Scott led to a huge increase of visitors.
