Luxury Scottish homeware and giftware brand Clare Baird
We are delighted to announce that from October 2025 we will be distributing luxury Scottish homeware and giftware brand Clare Baird . Featuring fresh and vibrant artwork coupled with luxurious and high-end textiles, homeware and stationery, Clare Baird’s mission is to bring an extra touch of happiness to the home. The product range includes bone China mugs, cotton tea towels, leather coasters and keyrings as well as greetings cards, notepads, sticky notes and more. Artist Clare Baird founded her brand ten years ago with a small selection of Highlands themed designs. What began with kilts and textiles for local shops soon grew into bespoke designs for world-renowned brands like Famous Grouse. Today, more than one hundred products make up the range, all showcasing Clare’s unique watercolour paintings. The artwork is inspired by Scottish wildlife and nature, and favourite designs include Highland cow, Scottish thistle, red squirrel and puffin – but there are many more to discover. At Lomond Books, we’re very excited to bring this new product range to our customers and to continue support small Scottish businesses like Clare’s. The addition of new homeware and giftware compliments our traditional offering of books, maps, calendars and Scottish related product and there’s no better time of year to bring in something new in this market than in these key selling months before Christmas. All of Clare Baird’s products can be viewed here . For more information on the range, please speak to your sales representative or our sales office.

Picture This: Why Independent Gift Shops Should Stock Postcards and Fridge Magnets
For independent gift shops in tourist destinations, historic towns, or picturesque neighborhoods, curating the right product mix is essential. While handmade goods and artisan crafts are key to standing out, one category is often overlooked despite its consistent popularity and profitability: picture-based souvenirs . Postcards and fridge magnets may be small, but they’re powerful. They offer visitors an affordable, packable, and visual way to remember their trip—and for shop owners, they offer a steady stream of sales with minimal footprint. Here’s why every independent gift shop should stock picture-based souvenirs like postcards and fridge magnets: 1. Affordable Keepsakes for Every Budget Not every traveler is looking to spend big, especially when they’re picking up gifts for multiple people. Postcards and fridge magnets provide an affordable way to take a piece of the trip home. They’re ideal for families, students, and budget-conscious tourists—and a great way to increase accessibility to your shop’s offerings. 2. Compact, Lightweight, and Easy to Pack Travelers are always thinking about luggage space. Picture-based souvenirs like postcards and magnets are easy to carry, don’t break, and won’t weigh anyone down. That makes them an easy “yes” at the till—especially for international tourists or last-minute shoppers. 3. Highlight Local Identity Through Imagery Postcards and magnets serve as mini canvases for showcasing the unique beauty of your town, landmark, or region. Whether it’s a scenic coastline, a charming high street, or a historic building, these souvenirs capture the essence of a place in a visually compelling way. They’re not just keepsakes—they’re tiny storytellers. 4. Collaborate with your supplier to create somethig exclusive to your store  Collaborate with your supplier to design exclusive postcard or magnet ranges bespoke to your shop and area. Not only does this add authenticity to your shop, but it also supports your retail scene and gives your customers something they won’t find in chain stores or airport kiosks. 5. Impulse Buys That Drive Profit Placed near the checkout or grouped in themed displays, picture-based souvenirs are classic impulse buys. Their low price point, visual appeal, and emotional pull make them perfect for spontaneous add-ons—and their high turnover can contribute significantly to daily sales. 6. Memories That Last (and Market Your Town) A postcard sent abroad or a magnet displayed on a fridge acts as ongoing, organic promotion for your location. These items are often kept for years, serving as gentle reminders of wonderful trips—and nudging others to visit. For independent shops, that’s a form of word-of-mouth marketing that works quietly and effectively. 7. Easy to Rotate, Refresh, and Personalize You can easily update your stock with seasonal views, specific designs, or local landmarks. This keeps your display feeling fresh and encourages repeat purchases from locals and returning tourists alike. Final Thoughts In a world of digital everything, tangible, visual souvenirs like postcards and fridge magnets offer something people still crave: real, lasting memories. For independent gift shops, they’re a low-cost, high-impact way to boost sales, support local talent, and give customers something they’ll treasure. So stock up on snapshots—because sometimes, the smallest souvenirs make the biggest impression. Postcards and Fridge Magnets available now
Why Retailers in Tourism and Heritage Should Stock Postcards: A Small Item with Big Benefits
In the age of smartphones and digital media, postcards may seem like a nostalgic throwback. Yet, these small, picturesque paper rectangles remain powerful souvenirs—both emotionally meaningful to visitors and commercially valuable to retailers. For tourism and heritage sites, stocking postcards isn't just a charming nod to the past; it's a smart business decision that enhances the visitor experience and supports local storytelling. 1. Affordable, Accessible Souvenirs Postcards are among the most affordable items in any gift shop. This makes them accessible to all visitors—whether it's a family watching their budget or a solo traveler trying to pack light. Retailers who stock postcards provide an inclusive souvenir option that doesn't require deep pockets. 2. Portable Memories One of the biggest challenges for tourists is suitcase space. Postcards solve that problem elegantly. They're light, flat, and easy to carry. Whether visitors are backpackers, cruise ship guests, or international travelers with luggage restrictions, postcards are a no-brainer to take home. 3. Celebrating Local Identity and Storytelling A well-designed postcard can capture the essence of a location better than a thousand selfies. Featuring historic landmarks, local art, cultural icons, or seasonal views, postcards help promote a region’s unique identity. Retailers at heritage sites can use them to share untold stories and highlight lesser-known features of their site and local area. 4. Emotional and Tangible Connections Unlike a social media post, a physical postcard can be held, displayed, and cherished. Whether it's mailed to a loved one or kept as a personal memento, a postcard creates a lasting emotional connection. That kind of tactile memory reinforces the significance of the visit—and reflects positively on the site itself. 5. Encouraging Repeat Visits and Word-of-Mouth A postcard mailed from a holiday destination becomes a small but powerful piece of marketing. It spreads word-of-mouth awareness organically, potentially inspiring others to visit. For heritage and tourism retailers, every postcard sent is a subtle promotional tool making its way around the globe. 6. Supporting Local Artists and Creators Postcards offer a unique platform to showcase the work of local photographers and illustrators. Retailers who commission or stock locally-designed postcards contribute to the cultural economy and add authenticity to their product range. 7. Impulse Buys That Add Up From a business standpoint, postcards are ideal point-of-sale items. Priced low and easy to browse, they often result in impulse purchases that boost the average transaction value. Stocking a variety of postcard designs encourages multiple purchases from a single customer. Final Thoughts Postcards may be small, but their value to retailers in tourism and heritage is anything but. They connect visitors to place, tell meaningful stories, and offer a low-barrier way to bring a piece of the experience home. In an era where authenticity and tangible memories matter more than ever, postcards prove that some traditions are well worth keeping alive. Retailers: stock up, tell your story, and let your visitors take a piece of it with them.
