This collection of pictures dates from long before Rutherglen's controversial absorption by Glasgow. Main Street is shown intact, prior to its redevelopment, and in one picture dozens of horses are lined up for sale in the street on a fair day. Picturesque Burnside Loch (drained in the inter-war years) and Burnside Bowling Green are featured, along with local football teams, the Victoria Gardens allotments, White's Chemical Works and the local tram network. |
