Christina began her working life at the Town Clerks office in Inverness. She wasinvolved in the very early days of the Highlands Tourist Board and worked for the Fitness Council in the nascent Outward Bound Movement led by its famous founder Kurt Hahn.Christina joined the Auxiliary Training Corps just before the outbreak of World War II. Oncewar was declared, Christina was instructed to go to London, where she discovered that shewould be working for Intelligence Services at Whitehall, decoding top secret messages for the government. Christinas memory of the details of some of this work is extraordinary. Many of the messages she decoded related to events which, in hindsight, proved to be of great historical significance. Chrisinas tales of her adventures in wartime London (including meeing Winston Churchill inhis pyjamas!) are a fascinating first-hand account of a by-gone era, retold with modesty and humour. |
