These three communities were all planned villages funded and built by local landowners with a view to increasing economic activity and hence the value of their estates. However, the fishing industry was their principal activity and the book therefore naturally features fishing, harbour and other maritime scenes such as the regatta. The author's extensive captions make this far more than a collection of old photographs and through them he tells the story of these communities. Also featured are the streets of these communities and social history photographs of specific events such as Baden Powell's visit in 1915 and Seaforth & Gordon Highlander military camps. Visitors to these places will find this an excellent starting point for finding out about their background, but locals will probably learn quite a lot about their surroundings too!
