Old Crianlarich Tyndrum & Bridge of Orchy
Stock No: 41258
ISBN/EAN: 9781840333725, Author: Bernard Byrom, Publisher: Stenlake, Format: PB
The scope of this book comprises three very different areas. The first part, from the Lix Toll near the foot of the northbound descent from Glenoglehead, goes westwards through Glen Dochart to Crianlarich. In contrast to the lochs and woodlands of Glen Dochart, the second part covers the five miles northwards to Tyndrum. The third section heads north through Bridge of Orchy. The area received a boost through the arrival of the railways in the late nineteenth century and again as cars and motor coaches penetrated the area in ever-increasing numbers in the 1920s and 30s. This collection of photos includes sleepy Edwardian views of Tyndrum and Crianlarich as they used to be and more recognisable views of the same places in the 1920s. Also included are pictures of the mine at Tyndrum and the West Highland Railway.
